    Writing instruction is a critical but challenging component of higher education. The Writing Center - Dahlonega Campus ("The Writing Center") exists to support writing instruction at all levels of the curriculum by providing academically-focused services to students at the University of North Georgia ("the University"). The Writing Center hopes to improve the learning experience for all participating students.

    The Writing Center

    1. provides one-on-one tutoring sessions to help students with assignments for courses at the  University.

    2. provides workshops to address specific aspects of academic writing.

    3. provides students with information and skills to improve their writing skills and their performance in academic writing assignments.

    4. addresses needs established by instructors and concerns communicated by students.

    5. does not collude with students by providing content of any kind.

    6. does not proofread student work.

    7. provides guidance to students with assignments and with existing drafts of academic papers.

    8. will work with students in any stage of the writing process to improve their performance on a given assignment and to improve their academic writing skills.

    9. will provide all instructors with reports on students who visit the Writing Center to work on an assignment in a specific course.

    10. as a campus-specific student service, is subject to evaluation by the Director of the Writing Center, the Department Head of the Department of English, the Dean of the School of Arts and Letters, and the Provost. Evaluation applies to its activities and its performance.

    Support Info

    1. Because most instructors have limited resources for providing narrowly-focused writing instruction to students, the Writing Center supplements the work of instructors.

    2. Writing Center tutors will provide feedback and guidance in addressing writing assignments, but will also coach students in adapting and practicing skills that will equip them to have increased success in academic writing.
