Unscheduled University Closings

    The purpose of this policy is to ensure appropriate work activities and proper pay for periods when one or more campuses are closed due to inclement weather or other circumstances.

    1. The Public Safety Office will notify the Senior Vice President for Business and Finance whenever they are recommending a campus closure or delayed opening. The President or his/her designee will make the final determination, considering the recommendations of the Senior Vice President for Business and Finance and the Public Safety Office.

    2. Any campus closing or delayed opening will be widely publicized to inform as many people as possible who will be affected by that action.

    3. Pay for employees for the period during which their campus was closed will follow all appropriate guidelines of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

    4. Specific campus protocols for the maintenance of facilities during various types of campus closings will be maintained by the Facilities department for that campus.
