Reporting Substantive Change to Accrediting Body

    The purpose of this policy is to clearly state the requirement to report to the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC), the accrediting agency of the University of North Georgia (University), whenever substantive changes are to be made to the University.

    1. The President of the University, with support from the Cabinet and the SACSCOC Accreditation Liaison, is responsible for ensuring timely reporting to SACSCOC of the following types of substantive changes:

      1. Initiating a branch campus
      2. Altering significantly the educational mission of the institution
      3. Initiating a merger/consolidation with another institution
      4. Changing governance, ownership, control, or legal status of the institution
      5. Relocating a main or branch campus
      6. Closing a branch campus or the institution
      7. Acquiring any program or site from another institution
      8. Adding a permanent location at a site where the institution is conducting a teach-out for students from another institution that is closing

    2. Such events are rare, and when discussion of these types of substantive change begins, the President will inform the SACSCOC Accreditation Liaison so that appropriate notification and request for approval can be made to the Commission on Colleges.

    3. The Provost, with support from the Deans and the SACSCOC Accreditation Liaison, is responsible for ensuring timely reporting to SACSCOC of all other types of substantive change.

    This document is a simple restatement in the current policy format of the “University of North Georgia Policy on Reporting Substantive Changes to SACSCOC” which was approved by the University Cabinet on April 8, 2013.  The current document retains the original effective date of the source document.

    The Approval Guide for New, Expanding, or Closing Program/Site/Course, which was approved by the Provost Council and the Academic Affairs Committee, contains procedures for internal and external notification and/or approval of these substantive changes.

    Any related operating procedures must comply with and should reference this policy.
