    Purpose

    This purpose of this policy is to require compliance with minimum security standards to help protect not only individual devices, but also other devices connected to the networks maintained by the University. The policy is also intended to prevent exploitation of University resources by unauthorized individuals.

    Definitions

    1. Electronic Communications Network is a group of two or more computerized communications devices linked together.

    2. Networked Device is a computer, printer, wireless appliance, or other piece of equipment that can connect to and communicate over an Electronic Communications Network.

    Statement

    1. This policy applies to all devices connected to the University Electronic Communications Network or using a University System of Georgia Internet Protocol (IP) address to originate electronic communication. Devices include computers, printers, or other network appliances.

    2. All departments, units, and individuals must use devices that comply with the Networked Devices Minimum Security Standard established by University Information Security.
