    Purpose

    1. Due to the recent fire concerns surrounding Hoverboards, the University of North Georgia (the “University”) has chosen to prohibit the use, possession, or storage of all Hoverboards, including Swagways, or similar devices in all University Buildings.

    2. The University’s priority continues to be the safety of the students, faculty, staff, and visitors on our campuses.

    Definitions

    1. University Building – Any building owned, leased, or managed by UNG.

    2. Hoverboard - self-balancing, battery operated scooter

    Statement

    The use, possession, or storage of all Hoverboards, including Swagways, or similar devices, is prohibited in all University Buildings.

    Support Info

    1. Residential students who own Hoverboards and similar devices should not bring them to campus due to fire concerns regarding the batteries that operate the boards.

    2. Although not prohibited, the University strongly cautions against storing these products in vehicles.

    Procedures

    1. This policy may be altered when additional information regarding safety standards can be developed, but is effective beginning January 4, 2016 and will remain in effect until otherwise changed.

    2. Any related operating procedures must comply with and should reference this policy.
