    Purpose

    The purpose of this policy is to clearly state the requirements of the University of North Georgia, (the “University”) for the orientation of new employees, in order to ensure that they are familiar with the conditions and benefits of their employment.

    Statement

    1. The University shall conduct a general employee orientation program for each new employee.
    2. Copies of all relevant documents shall be made available by Human Resources and/or the departmental office of each new employee. This can be done with hard copies and/or through online availability.

    3. Each new employee shall be responsible for reading and familiarizing himself/herself with the contents of the appropriate policy and/or procedures manuals at his/her institution.

    4. Human Resources and the hiring department will share with the new employee an explanation of the duties and responsibilities of the position, the conditions of employment, the amount of compensation, and other work-related matters as deemed appropriate by the employee's department chair or immediate supervisor, however, each new employee shall be specifically responsible for obtaining information regarding the following work related issues:

      1. Personnel policies and procedures
      2. Salary or wage information
      3. Leave benefits
      4. Insurance benefits
      5. Retirement benefits
      6. Resources available on campus (library services, computer services, athletic facilities, location and function of business office, procurement, physical plant, etc.) 
    5. An academic department head is also responsible for discussing additional topics with each new faculty member as described in the Faculty Handbook

    1. All University orientation policies will comply with section 8.2.5 of the Board of Regents Policy Manual, as well as the Policy on Employee Orientation in the University System of Georgia’s Human Resources Administrative Practice Manual.

    2. In the event of a conflict between the University document and the above documents, the BOR or USG policy shall prevail.

    Any related operating procedures must comply with and should reference this policy.
